Driver Training
As well as providing transport services, BATS also offer Minibus Driver Awareness training to schools and colleges, groups or individuals.
MiDAS
BATS is a member of MiDAS, the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme, organised by the Community Transport Association U.K.(CTA) which aims to promote a nationally-recognised standard for the assessment and training of minibus drivers.
It is a membership-based scheme that has been designed to enhance minibus driving standards and promote the safer operation of minibuses. All drivers using our minibuses must first successfully complete the MiDAS course.
Drivers who successfully complete the MiDAS assessment and training programme will receive a nationally recognised certificate valid for four years, as well as the option of obtaining the comprehensive "MiDAS Driver's Handbook".
PATS
BATS can also provide Passenger Assistant Training (PATS).
PATS provides a nationally-recognised standard of training to those appointed to provide care and assistance to passengers travelling by road.
PATS has several modules. BATS can provide training for the following:
- Module A
The Role of the Passenger Assistant.
This is a foundation module. It covers the roles and responsibilities of a passenger assistant, including legal, practical and safety issues.
- Module B
Assisting Passengers with Disabilities.
This module includes boarding and alighting from vehicles and safety information concerning wheelchair users.
- Module C1
Supervising Children and Young People with Special Needs.
This includes supervising children and young people with learning difficulties, sensory restrictions, autism, physical disabilities and emotional or behavioural difficulties.
- Module C2
Working with Adults who Require Care and Supervision.
This includes adult passengers with learning disabilities, dementia, physical disabilities, sensory restrictions and people with mental or emotional distress.
The other PATS modules require specialist trainers and, at present, we are unable to offer them. These are:
- Module D
Emergency Aid
- Module E

- Module F
Safety Managing Challenging Behaviour
